Description

Collect or sort donations on Saturday, May 13 for The Crisis Center Food Bank!

Stamp Out Hunger is a community-wide drive when letter carriers and volunteers go door-to-door collecting food for The Crisis Center of Johnson County. Anyone living in Coralville and Iowa City can participate; just leave non-perishable food donations in a sturdy bag by your mailbox. Last year, Stamp Out Hunger collected nearly 9,000 pounds of food for The Crisis Center Food Bank.

On Saturday, May 13, come help collect and sort food in a community-wide food drive sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers!

Volunteers can participate in two different ways: driving their pick-up truck or van on an assigned route in Iowa City or Coralville, collecting food donations set outside of homes; or by coming to the Iowa City Post Office and sorting donations as they come in. This is a great opportunity for individuals wanting a one-time volunteer opportunity, for groups wanting to volunteer together, or for families with children old enough to collect food from the community.

Volunteers sorting donations must be high-school age or older to volunteer solo, or a mature 12-year old to volunteer with a parent, because of the potential risks of the location (the postal service loading dock). Families with younger children can choose to collect food as a family, but must have an appropriate vehicle with storage capacity, and a valid drivers license
