POSITION TITLE: Front Desk Support Volunteer
TIME COMMITMENT: Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one regular shift per week, Monday through Friday. Available shifts may include:
- Morning: 7:30–9:00 AM
- Midday: 12:00–1:00 PM
- Afternoon: 4:00–5:30 PM
Shift availability may vary by location.
LOCATION(S): Front Desk Volunteer Assistants may serve at either:
- Pheasant Ridge Center, 2651 Roberts Road
- Broadway Center, 2105 Broadway Street
Each location is easily accessible by the Iowa City bus system.
PURPOSE: The Front Desk Volunteer Assistant helps create a welcoming, organized, and supportive environment for children, families, staff, and neighbors as they enter Neighborhood Centers. During busy parts of the day, this volunteer serves as an important point of connection by greeting visitors, answering questions, helping with basic office needs, and supporting communication between families and staff. Their presence helps our centers feel accessible, responsive, and cared for.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be 18 years old or older
· Must be able to commit to at least one day a week
· Must be able to pass necessary background checks
· Must possess good interpersonal, phone, printer and computer skills
· Past experience strongly preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Turn on lights, community computers, and digital displays
· Be present and alert at the front desk while greeting families, students and staff
· Give and receive information and documents from parents and staff.
· Help with printing, faxing and scanning documents.
· Support simple office or program projects as needed, such as preparing materials, organizing supplies, or providing clerical support.

Follow applicable NCJC and ICCSD policy in
regard to client interactions, behavioral
supports, confidentiality, and limiting exposures to blood-borne pathogens.

By volunteering at the front desk, you help set the tone for each person who walks through our doors. Your time and attention support the daily rhythm of the center and help create the safe, welcoming environment our children, families, and neighbors count on.
