Who We Are
Kirkwood Community College Secondary Programs serves adult learners in the Johnson, Linn, Benton, Jones, and Cedar counties.
What We Do
Kirkwood's Adult Literacy Program supports lifelong learning of adults by working with students one-on-one toward attaining their goals for skill development, personal growth, career advancement, and enhanced community involvement.
Volunteers contribute their talents and skills to guide adult learners’ progress toward individual goals to better understand English, improve math skills, learn to read with deeper meaning, and enhance English literacy.
Tutors typically meet with one tutee for one to two hours a week over a period of months. Tutor and students meet at public places, such as a municipal library or Kirkwood buildings.
