We are excited to share our upcoming event, the 40th Annual Red Shoe Run & Walk 5k on Sunday May 5th at Lower City Park, Iowa City, IA. This event has been a cornerstone of our efforts, and we are counting on the support of volunteers to make it a resounding success.
RMHC-EIWI provides care and comfort to families who have a pediatric child receiving medical care. RMHC-EIWI removes barriers that separate families while they receive medical care by providing the essential comforts of home including private rooms, home-cooked meals, kitchen and laundry facilities, recreation areas, and more. Additionally, RMHC-EIWI has two Family Rooms in our surrounding hospitals: the Ronald McDonald Family Room at UnityPoint Health, St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, and the Ronald McDonald Family Room and Ronald McDonald Food Pantry at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
Our Red Shoe Run raises important funds and awareness of our goal to keep families close to each other in their time of need. It also serves as our Annual Family Reunion, where our alumni families return to visit and see each other, staff, and volunteers. It's a really fun day but requires 100+ volunteers to ensure the Run is a success for our families and participants! We have volunteer opportunities such as: loading the truck on Friday, helping set up the course Sunday morning, working the Kids Zone, assisting at registration, cheering on our runners as they run, and so much more!
