On Saturday, Aug. 7th, the American Red Cross and the Iowa City Fire Department (ICFD) have teamed up for a one-day event that will provide free smoke alarms to residents of the South District Neighborhood.
Volunteers will congregate at 8 a.m. at the Dream City/Kingdom Center Church, 611 Southgate Ave., to canvas the neighborhood, meet residents, and offer to test, replace, and install new smoke alarms at no charge.
Each smoke detector will be installed under the supervision of the Iowa City Fire Department with help from community partners like Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity and the South District Neighborhood Association. We also need your help in order to provide as many free installations as possible that day. Consider volunteering for this event, click on the link to sign up: please sign up to volunteer here.
