Who We Are
Promoting Mental Wellness Through Meaningful Friendships
Compeer volunteers are adults across the age and gender spectrum from all walks of life who know how important friendship and social connection are to everyone's well-being.
Mission:
Reduce the loneliness and isolation of adults receiving mental health treatment by developing structured friendships with trained community volunteers.
Vision:
Compeer Inc. envisions a day when all communities embrace individuals and their families living with mental health challenges.
Affiliation:
Compeer Johnson County is a local affiliate of Compeer International and uses their established matching process and program model which is recognized as a best practice for mental health recovery by the American Psychological Association.
What We Do
Compeer of Johnson County matches adults who are living with mental illness with community volunteers to create intentional friendships with the goal of reducing isolation and loneliness.
Compeer volunteers are asked to connect with their friend match for at least an hour once a week and expected to commit for at least a year. Volunteers are asked to take the initiative to reach out to their match to make plans. Together, you decide what you’d like to do and when you can get together each week.
Volunteers receive training, ongoing education and support from Compeer staff and are rewarded by the knowledge that they are making a positive difference in someone’s life.
